I have seen and played a few alien invasion games in the past so when I first saw Max Adventure game I was expecting a very boring and full game. What I was not expecting is that I would have had a lot of fun playing Max Adventure- the game was a big surprise and very addictive.
Imagine waking up one morning and your all alone, aliens have invaded earth and all the parents have been captured by the aliens, leaving you, young max to take on a force of aliens. You have no form of training fighting aliens or anything to that sort, all you have is your desire to survive and save the world. You must at all cost send these aliens back to their planet and rescue your parents. In this alien invasion game of Max Adventure you play as Max, a kid armed with a zap gun and a colander for a helmet. Your task is a very heavy one as you must save the world from these aliens. The aliens are everywhere and could show up at anytime, you have no rest.
The game opens in Max’s neighborhood where the mechanics you’re going to be dealing with for the rest of the game are clearly laid out. There are two modes: Story Mode Survival Mode. In Story Mode your job is to escape from the aliens that are popping up everywhere you turn out of pods. You must find the zap gun if you are going to have any success and also to rescue the other kids. To find your first kid you must destroy the first pod that is in the same place you found the gun- this is where the real fun and action begins. Use the radar to locate your missing friends, your radar is like your very own map. As you move around you can pix up powerups which you will need if you want to go very far in Max Adventure.
Survival Mode is much different. Your job is to try to survive as long as possible by shooting the aliens with your gun.
To control Max use your thumb on the left control stick to move max. Use your zap gun by using your thumb on the right control stick to fire the zap gun. To fire in different direction you need to touch at different location on the screen. At first I thought the gun could only be fired in one direction-right- but after playing for awhile I discovered that I could actually fire the zap gun at different direction.
Progressing through Max Adventure is very easy and involves completing various tasks such simply find kids and touch them to save them, escort kids, fight bosses, and more. Enemies comes in different kind and some are much easier to kill than others, for example, one alien split in to smaller aliens when shot, some charge at you, and some bounce around among other techniques to kill you and/or avoid your ray gun. As you progress through the levels and destroy pods you will receive powerups which are then activated by tapping their icon on the top right corner of the screen. Different powerups do different thighs for example one will increase your firepower in many different ways, blow up all nearby enemies, make you invincible, heal you, and much more. Aside from power-ups, enemies also drop coins which can then be spent on permanent upgrades for Max such as health, running faster, having pods show up on your radar, and other things. Once you unlock them, Max has three slots for these bonuses, and figuring out which three you want adds a fun level of depth to the game.
Imangi Studios has really created an awesome game. Max Adventure is a fun game that takes you into the world of an alien invasion where one kid must defend its world from the invading aliens. While doing this he must locate other kids to help him. I have no complain or problem with this game. If you love shooter games and familiar with twin-stick shooters then you feel right at home with Max Adventure.
