Apple Best apps and games of 2014 unveiled

Each year Apple releases their annual roundup of what they think is the best apps and games of the year. This year is no different as on Monday Apple unveiled its Best apps and games of 2014.

Topping Apple’s list this year of Apple’s Best apps and games are Elevate, a brain-training app, and Threes!, a puzzle game with a unique design.

“We’re so hooked on its fascinating stats, colorful visuals, and personalized workouts, it’s become a daily ritual,” Apple wrote in Elevate’s product description.

Runner-ups were Instagram’s, Hyperlapse videography app and Leo’s Fortune, a platform game.

It is interesting to see how Apple Best apps and games of 2014 was selected as Apple in it’s selection looked at apps in download numbers, and certain types of appsand apps that received a lot of buzz in the media. For example we notice few brain-training apps and a number of news media apps, including Paper, BuzzFeed and NYT Now.

Apple Best apps and games of 2014In Movie and TV category

Guardians of the Galaxy, The Lego Movie, Boyhood, and Obvious Child won the top awards in the movie category. Others that got a mention in the general “Best” container include Birdman, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Edge of Tomorrow, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and Snowpiercer to name just a few.

Topping the TV category include Fargo, True Detective, The Honorable Womankind and Key & Peele, while those who earned laudatory mentions include Adventure Time, The Americans, Arrow, Sherlock, Broad City, Orphan Black and more.
